Changing the name of the file server for Macintosh clients

When you first start the file server, it takes its name (which is visible in the Chooser and the Network Browser) from the File Sharing control panel. Once AppleShare IP is installed, the only way to change the name is to use Mac OS Server Admin.

To change the name of the file server:
1 Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer.
2 Press the File Services button and choose Configure File Server.
    3 Click the AppleShare tab.
4 Type a new name for your server in the AppleTalk Name box.
Note: Only Macintosh clients see this name. To set the server name for Windows clients, see Changing the name of the file server for Windows clients.
